A short clip of Primbee yesterday. An awesome way to cap off 3 days on the water. Sunshine, clear flat water, couldn't ask for more![]()
I remember sailing Primbee back in the 80s. It was so shallow back then with relatively short (<30cm) wave fins (and heaps of weed).
Great spot to sail, but how do you go with fins these days? Looks like it is a little cleaner, but no deeper.
Clarence
Tiny fin for that size sail, Im surprised but the shallow water demands it.
How wide is the board?
and great day lucky you

The lake is a lot cleaner since the entrance was permanently opened a few years back. The weed comes and goes but still super shallow, just without the stench. I used to sail some of the shallows back in the early 90's but couldn't get into the areas we do now with delta and speed weed fins.

Yeah that was the first time tried that fin with that combo. The board is 75W which handled the 24 delta much better than I expected. A little loose but no big deal.
Sweet looking vid Stu. The best part, seeing Im not the only punter in Australia who uses hook up, halelujah!!!!!!!!!!!

funny, I said that exact thing to Stu Larko when I was down there 2 weeks ago.
Sorry Stu to highjack your thread
This was from Sunday's session at Primbee at the end of a 25 knot NM, 19cm delta and Cockle bed! Out come bashed leg and dented sail
Nice videos guys.
Cheeky, I was watching that sand patch approaching and was thinking uh oh you should be going around that, when bam... KO'd!!
I got some footage too, which I'll post here in the next couple of days.
That's really shallow, even shallower than Lake George and Lake George has a very soft bottom to the lake so if your fin hits bottom it just ploughs through the mud.
What is bottom of the lake where you sail at Primbee. It's looks solid. Over the years, has anyone hurt themselves badly as a consquence of crashing at speed in such shallow water?
I think it's nice that Larko & Stu have been able to "Hook Up". ![]()
(Sorry couldn't resist)

Don't worry Larko they just don't understand us mate. I cant believe in 2015 we're still judging sailors on their hooking up orientation! We just want to be treated equally!![]()
Lol no worries Cheeky. Yep that didn't look fun. We should start a stacking thread!
There are 2 of those long sandbars up that end that will catch you and unfortunately that's the way I figured out which is which. Although I still clench when I go over any large patch of sand up that end. The rest of the strip is pretty predictable, apart from the foreign objects like sleepers, milk crates, crab pots, wheelie bins, UFO's etc
Actually a shopping trolley would be handy!
And if your lucky you might hit Artur's boom! Sorry Artur couldn't resist it. ![]()
After all the boards, masts and sails damaged last weekend there should be a few good one's.
Nice video Stu. I see a carbon boom in your future........

Great vid Stu. Looking super relaxed and dialed in on that gear!

MartinF2, Id love carbon booms but not in the budget this year. A couple of carbon booms would be equal to about half my kit lol. One day!
Cheers Eckas, yeah I was stoked with that combo. You cant throw it around like the smaller gear but so nice to cruise on. If I wasn't so stuffed from the previous 2 days I could have smashed out a Km PB for sure.
John340, the bottom is a combo of muddy/silty parts and sandy patches. Firm in places and softer in others. The depth is very predictable from one end to the other so once you get to know the place you can relax and enjoy the ride. I cant think of any serious injuries that I know of. I've not hurt myself any more in the shallows than I have in the chop out in the middle. As for high speed crashes, I seem (fingers crossed) to come off better at speed and hurt myself more at 20kts.
Thanks for all of the comments guys. I've been enjoying playing around making the clips and happy to share them.
I'm saving my crash clips from now on
