I have a 2013 101L carbon Starboard Flare that doesn't really me. Looking to sell and purchase another board. I only really want to sail in the river at Yamba or in an ocean bay type situation. I have a bit of experience. I weigh between 70kg-75kg. Looking for suggestions as to what type of board I should be looking for. Willing to trade if anyone is interested. Thanks
Have you tried it with a bigger fin?
The 20cm fin that comes with the board is for new school freestyle.
The Flare is a great free ride board with a 26cm fin, fantastic early planing and superior jumping ability to a free ride board. It will also sit higher in the water and handle chop better. If you want to give the slalom boys a run for their money with a 30cm slalom fin you will out accelerate and have better exit speed out of the gybes than them.
With a 36cm fin and 4m less sail area I get the wind up the race board and formula guys.
Don't sell the board ,get another fin to suit your style of sailing and the conditions.
....and don't sell it $1000, too cheap, you won't get anything near as good for that money.
I think your model has a slot box setup,so not a lot of fins available yet. Just get a US box fin and chop the tab off then it will fit.

Agree 100%. I have a 109 Fanatic Skate, although not a Starboard Flare, they are both freestyle boards. Riding with the freestyle fin will sh1t you to tears if you are not sailing free-style. In my Skate I use a 23cm Onshore Wave fin for bump 'n' jump sailing, ocean blasting and wavesailing, and a 30cm freeride fin if I want to focus on speed on flatter water. A freestyle board is one of the most versatile boards you can ride, which is why I own one.
I get up to Yamba for three weeks every year and ride the Skate at Whiting Beach if there is no surf, off the convent beach in a solid NE, and even Pippi Beach if there are some fun waves. One board and two fins for Yamba is fine. Hope to meet you on my next trip up :-)
Thanks heaps for the advice. I really appreciate it. Hope to catch up with you one day at Yamba. Thanks again
+1 for a bigger fin. I use 21 freewave fin in my 90L JP Freestyle board, its heaps of fun. Goes great in light wind and small surf as well.
