Hi All

I an continually having trouble seperating masts, even used the old two boom trick.

Rather than find a way to seperate masts has anyone got a method (that works) to stop it happening in the first place, thought about using grease/vaseline but it might just attract more sand and crap.

It doesn't? What are you doing with it?

tie the bottom end to a tree with 2 ropes at either side and yank it in such a way the bottom half doesn't bounce off hard objects..no grease just wash and dry

Maybe you didn't clean the inside out first?
Then grit can still get in the joint and jamb it up.
If it's a clean joint and you tape it, how can it jam??

I use electrical tape every day out. Never have stuck masts.

Buy good quality - not the stuff you get in Crazy Clarck's.

Allways shuv in and pull out a few times befor you hit the water, same goes for your extention, its not hard and it saves for no problems later.

Have tried electrical tape and cleaned out inside the mast. When first putting the mast together i can get them tight with still about a 3mm gap and when i downhaul it closes the gap thus creating the problem of trying to seperate them.
Perhaps with use it will wear a bit and alleviate the problem.
Thanks for all replies.

Ploppy, if your relying on d/h to get the 2 pieces of your mast together then something is definitely wrong.
Maybe give both bits a very light sand to remove any burrs etc and make SURE the 2 bits join sweetly at the join.
Then use some duct tape and wrap so that nothing can get in. You only need about 15cm to go around most masts at the join.
Also are the top and bottom the same mast brand??

Always urinate on your mast before rigging, works a treat

you should cut 3mm off the top of your bottom section. that way it will slide together flush. if that fails try what wet willy said/
works a treat
