Hi,
Has anyone tried these boards? We are looking at the 122lt
Looking for a board for the family to use. The board will mostly be used by myself(beginner/intermediate) and my son (young learner) just for a bit of fun. Used to windsurf about 10 years ago on short boards. Getting back into windsurfing as this is a lot more family friendly.
Seems to me to be a good choice.
Any help would be good.
Regards
Danny
A friend has one and he is a light weight (<60kg) I think but finds it a bit hard to up-haul in the ocean not as good as the 130 Go he had - says it goes well and the centre fin works well as his daughter can use it with a mini sail but it would be hard for a larger teenager or adult female.
we have a 160 wide style for the family and it works well for all of us and with a bigger fin planes quite nice with a 6.4. (except for the fountain of water that spurts out the centre board track)
If you already can water start etc sounds like it it would be worth considering
Hope this is useful
Cheers

Hi,
Yeah i bought the '08 122 Kombat for my wife (51 kgs ish) as a progression board. I haven't seen the Kode 122 but guess it'll be pretty similar.
On the whole i'd give it a 6 to 7 out of ten for achieving what Starboard says it is going to do.
The things it does really well:
~ staying upwind in subplaning conditions.
~ learning footstrap use/planing is as easy as it comes.
~ carry handle is great.
~ EVA deck kind on shins.
Limitations:
~ pretty tippy for uphauling, tacking etc (low nose volume). This is something that is reasonably easy to adjust to but a bit of patience is required.
~ centrefin makes it difficult to control in planing conditions.
~ Not the best freeride board with single fin and footstraps in outboard positions - Slow to get up on plane. Top end speed is Doesn't handle a 7m freeride sail that well (much better with our 5.7m sail). Sluggish to jybe. Not that loose. OK to pop little chop hops.
Hope this helps,
Todd
