Women in Windsurfing meet (Saturday Jan 12th)
The meet is planned for Sat jan 12th (this Weekend) to be held at Redcliffe. Venue will be confirmed friday night once forecast has settled.
planned for the day is
1. The BBQ sponsored by Starboard.
2. Starboard womens giveaways. (3 long sleeve wetshirts)
3. Beginners gear and windsurfing lessons (girl instructors on hand)
To celebrate women in WIndsurfing and offer an opportunity for the girls to learn the sport Starboard is sponsoring of latest meet at Redcliffe. Could all those wanting to borrow beginners gear or receive lessons please email me so I can cater to numbers. Please tell your friends and drag them all along.
We have an afternoon high tide on the day and will look towards starting lessons early to take advantage of lighter winds. I have had an excellent response to date from all of the girls within the club and interest in lessons. Kellie (qld womens slalom title holder) will be helping with lessons and the gear will be ready to go on the beach.
Current forecasts look like the winds will once again be blowing so i am sure we will all enjoy the day.

I'll see if my girlfriend and any of her mates will go. I've got the surf to city yacht race this weekend (should be a bloody quick trip with the forecast so far!!!) so can't make it with her.
Hi Justin
Is the location definitely set for Pelican Park? Have never sailed there before, but think I know how to get there. (just checked the location guide, handy that)
Bringing 2 other girls with me who are really looking forward to the day.
Lots of rain here today, but Radar shows all the rain is clearing now so we should have a great day!
Hi Club309, that's ok. not a problem
Hi Ka72,
all is ok for tomorrow. pelican park is a new spot for the club. so i guess we are wandering again. ![]()
i have spoken to the locals many a time about the place and they helped me write the location guide. it's prbably the best spot at redcliffe for beginners because it is relatively shallow and the water flat. when the wind gets up during the strong southerlies it starts to get waves building up over the sandbanks. so in lots of wind it is and impressive bump and jump location too. a bit of everything.
i have called in some help tomorrow as there has been a great response. we will have about 8 girls hitting the water as beginners. plus all of the girls that are in the club already, so i think a good result.
of course there will also be all of the usual suspects there too. ![]()
the wind looks to be light to moderate easterlies to picking up to stronger SE in the arvo. well that seems the most likely outcome at the moment looking at the charts anyways.
see you there.
cheer
Justin.
Fantastic day
Girls had a great time and they cant wait to get back on the water. Will post some photos tomorrow
K
cheers for the kind words.
i was a bit nervous when i first got there to see a 1-2 foot swell rolling through the learners area. (mental note - mid to low tide is great for learning)
soon as the tide dropped it flattened out and things were all good. all up 8 girls had formal lessons and about 6 kids after that hit the water to learn the ropes.
everyone i spoke to said they are now hooked.
i am stoked that today worked out so well. i will definately organise more in the future.
Big thanks to Starboard for sponsoring the event and providing the ladies giveaways. without them the day would never have gotten off the ground. Because of them we now have 10-12 new windsurfers hungry for more time on the water. It's great to see an investment in womens windsurfing achieve such a great outcome.
Also The Starboard sponsored kids rig we received at xmas time for the club's gear library was used today. without the rig the kids wouldn't have been able to hit the water. The rig has now gone to a good home. qldsalty will be using it to teach his kids. a little bit of karma there cause qld salty also uses starboard boards.
once done the kit will be returned to the library for the next borrower.
Due to the large interest shown in todays event i had to call in some extra help on the day for gear and instructors.
caloundra wind and surf and SurfFX lent us their learner gear and KA72, Haircut and Pete helped with the lessons. chairman helped by bringing the SurfFX kit up from the goldcoast for us to use too. thanks to you all!
lastly thanks to haircut and Dylan for taking all of the photos and of course all of the members for joining in.
The venue was a new location for the club and we will be back again. it's a great place. it would also be good for racing events. ![]()
there are a few more photos in the seabreeze gallery and mor ecoming over the next few days. also i'll get the review up asap.
It was great, and anything to get new people and kids into the sport has to be gold. Well done Justin ![]()
