A couple of weeks ago I went on another solo mission to sail some starboard tack waves in WA. Its not often you get a chance to sail this direction over here. I'd been to this spot a few times now as its my prefered tack and thought that I had it sussed out. This is the result of a days sailing there. The swell turned out to be a bit to big and the day before I think the banks got chewed away as there was water where it normally wouldn't be. Anyway here is the video and the conditions. I filmed and edited myself sailing so a little bit amateuristic. Fast forward to about 1:20 if my waffle gets to much.
love the 'supplies'. must be so many unsailed west coast spots esp. in that direction, nice work - the gear got a pounding!
A shorebreak just like lower tide at many east coast spots.
Red Bull product placement? Sold out Benno ![]()

Seriously, good vid
Interesting spot, been looking at the north side (on WSW) for the wrap around wave that will be port tack and peels OK. Maybe I shoudl do exactly what you did cos my starboard tack is sh!te
And Ben , what are those cool looking sails you are using. Something tells me there is a genius involved in thier design![]()
On reflection I will take that back, the true genius created the sausage roll, a work of art!!!
Glad you guys liked it thanks, for the comments and Mark its actually the snagger roll product placement I was going for I just like the taste of redbull... I think from the Neerabup servo, first one outta town windy. Not as good as the Brighton Rd bakery though I might add.
It was meant to be a bit of a laugh and not to serious so yeah.
The sails are proto types I've been testing for KA Sails. Much lighter then previous years and can still take a pounding as you can see in the video. We've achieved some major improvements to them. Thanks mr.love I've never been called a genius before. :-)
I seriously got so pumped on some of those waves a lot of it was out of frame. A few people have asked why not get a solo shot. It might track your motion but it still wont focus 100% accurately. If there was a wireless focusing mechanism that tracked you and adjusted the focus then that might be pretty good. It would probably cost an arm and a leg though and lack any creativity I guess. I might do another one of these but its pretty frustrating running up and down the beach and having missed shots or out of focus stuff which most of this video is and it kinda cuts into your sailing time.

Don't know how far you zoomed in those shots but if you have enough light you might be able to crank up the ISO and shoot F22 or similar. You'll loose a bit of sharpness but focusing shouldn't be as much of an issue.
Still thought it was a great video and some of those waves look like good fun.
I didn't zoom in a great deal on them just a touch to get a bit closer. The problem was clouds coming over all the time. So some shots were blown out and others too dark. I rarely got it right. I pretty much just left it on around f9 or there abouts and hoped for the best. My colour correction efforts were mostly in vain as well, you probably noticed. cheers for the tip I havent really done much at f22 becuase of the sharpness loss but I guess its worth a shot if the suns out.
Here's the wipeout in normal speed and sloooowww motttioooonnnn.
Hey Benno... hows the ankle after that wipeout ?
Taking a big gamble with those conditions... Russian Roulette of the food world taking on the Bay Marie's of death along that particular stretch of road ![]()
kevo, ankle was a bit sore but not from that flipity doo dah get off. the first one actually hurt the most. Trying some alternative medicine injections to get over the old injuries now. 5 injections in one ankle and 2 into the other this week.
