I would much appreciate an advice from someone who had a chance to ride these two boards (or similar)
I'm riding at the moment Fanatic Shark 120 (2013 board) as my low wind board. I used this board to teach my daughter (8 years) on this year. It was ok volume wise but she couldn't keep it upwind because it has no center fin.
I was thinking to exchange the shark for a board that has the center-fin option. Something like Starboard Kode Tufskin 123 or Fanatic Ripper 120. I could use it as my low wind board and she could also surf on it much better than on the shark.
I'm sure any of these boards is perfect for her, but which is good for me? I'm looking at performance as close to the sharks as possible.
The Kode is a bit wider and shorter so I could expect slightly better planning capabilities. How is maneuverability? How does it jibe? What about the smaller kode tufskin 113L.
Sail I'll be using mostly is Fluido T3 7,8m2 from Challenger Sails. It is a 3 cam sail freerace/slalom sail.
I really don’t want to buy an extra board, because it is too much equipment to carry on vacations ![]()
The Kode 120 is the best at gybing in difficult conditions compared to the Carve or Futura where as the other two hold their speed really well in marginal conditions. It can be gybed quite aggressively which is a lot of fun, there is quite a bit of "freemove" in this board but its still quite fast. It does feel a little heavier when jumping but the tough skin construction is good, I have loaned this board out a lot and while the soft deck is starting to look a little faded and worn its had a lot of use over the last 5 years.
