I have the opportunity to buy an Isonic 111 for $600 dollars with a bag and fin.
I am coming back to windsurfing after 10 to 15 years of not sailing. What are your opinions? I actually would like a freeride board but the Isonic is in great shape and I think is a great deal.
I have not ridden an Isonic but from what I've seen they are full on slalom boards. However if you were used to the narrower boards of the 90s you will probably find the Isonic wide and stable. It will also be alot shorter for good or ill.
Perhaps give it a go first and see what you think. If you mainly sail on flattish water then the Isonic should be as good as it gets but may take a little getting used to.
Thanks, I will be sailing on coastal conditions. Same spot as before, lots of bump and jumps is what I like to do. Not sure is the Isonic will be the board for me.
The Isonic 111 is a great high performance board (I've owned one) but not the right choice for coastal B&J. Moreover it is a technical board to sail that does require some technique and tuning to get the best out of it.
If you want to re introduce youself to the sport then there are much better options available. Freeride and FSW wave boards are the ones to look at.
jaloo56 it all depends if it is going to be your main board and how much you weigh, the 111 is a big board and will handle a 8mt sail with ease, ive only ridden one once and found the straps to far outward for bump and jump, if you was prepared to add some plug inserts and bring the straps inboard it would still be a good buy, remembering you still can bring the straps out for flat water and have a good fast slalom
ps maybe they have sorted the problem out on the board your looking at buying
another thing as well is, weigh the board i imagine it should be a tad over 7kgs have a look at the specs online , but that is a very important issue, if theres moisture in the board you have a chance of it delamination in the heat
