Over the last couple of days Ive been using the 5.3m Severne S1 and Blade sails.
Because of the light onshore winds I decided to put the Blade on my Starboard 11'2.
What a hoot!
The wind was barely 12knots and I was planing. I sailed out about 3km and then decided to gybe. You can see the gybe at 30 seconds into the video. Because of the way I set the camera up as I was heading out the wind had blown the uphaul rope in the cameras way. Also the sun made the footage abit blury and pink.
I also went for a paddle in the marina. Very relaxing and peaceful not to mention a good core workout. Its got me stuffed why people would rather workout indoors? Standup paddling lets me get some exersise and also do what I love doing on the water.
Here is a video I made of the two sessions.
Hope you enjoy it![]()
Looks like fun. I try and do stand up paddling on my old original windsurfer brand board. Kinda heavy and wobbly but those things look like fun.
Stand up paddling (SUP) sure is fun. Its still a relitively new sport. Get out there and try it if you havent. You might just find that you like it? Getting out on an old windsurfer is certainly a good start but its alot like trying to windsurf on a really old windsurfer but these days there are Go boards which help the learning curve. With SUP boards they are longer and wider which also help learning easy. Once you get the technique and get more confident, which doesnt take very long at all, you can move to a shorter and smaller board. My SUP is a Starboard which comes with two positions to screw in a rig. Not only can you paddle it and sail it but you can also surf it. It certainly is a fun alternative and I highly recommend it![]()
Nice vid Greenroom. I have a Starboard 12'6" and it is about the best thing I have ever bought! I use it a few times a week, paddled 8km the other day out through the marina, around a little island and back in to the beach. It's a great workout and you can catch waves you would never have considered surfable in the past. I have sailed it too and it is great for practicing tricks, heli tacks are a breeze with all that board and sailing with no straps feels kinda free and natural.
