Anyone interested in doing a couple more downwind social races in Perth this season?
As there is only a couple of races organised this year I thought there might be a few crew interested in have a few social races/mini marathons/downwind blasts in the Perth area.
These races would not be Windsurfing WA events (could be if the association wanted to add them to the calender) but an informal race at your own risk informal get togethers. Conditions would be similar to the Coast Run conditions regarding safety gear etc.
My idea is to have a few of races at different locations and have a point score system to determine an overall winner. To keep it interesting and competative there could be several grades and classes of gear and a handicap system.
The locations I had in mind were:
- Woodmans Point to South Beach (awesome dead downwind blast in challenging conditions)
- Applecross to Pelican Point (to get all the river sailer involved. Would need to include a couple of marks to get the distance up)
- Maybe somewhere from or to Pinaroo Point
- Repeat of Leighton to Scarborough run
Classes could be:
- Unlimited use what ever you can afford
- Freeride Gear (no cams, max sail 7m, max board width ?)
- Wave Gear
Not sure how handicap could work but one idea was to award points based on your time compare to the average time for your class and overall. Any ideas. All the system has to do is make everyone a chance of winning in their class.
The only other condition would be, race only goes ahead if all competitors vote that there is enough wind or conditions are safe.
Any good ideas for other locations will be considered. I thin with good input from everyone we can come up with a social race series that is not to formal and everyone will enjoy.
I'm in. Great idea so that anyone can participate on normal gear - like the idea on points and classes.
if there is wind there is one every day and has been for 20 years
5 of my mates go from metts to hillarays its not a race you take your time 1hr1/2
its good fun
