Hi
I want to fit a single fin to my Severne Dyno 105 for m 6/6,5m weather. I'm just under 75kgs in weight so not sure if a 30 or 32 cm freeride fin would work best. Thinking of getting the Fang Freeride model. www.k4fins.com/product/fang-freeride-fin/
I read that because the central fin-box is placed so far back that a large fin with any rake may create spin-out issues so I'm assuming that a more swept back FSW oriented fin isn't the best choice for this board?
Any advice much appreciated.
cheers
I've got a 115 version and used to alternate running the thruster setup and single freeride 34cm with straps in the outside position and freeride sail up to 7.0 ( once or twice bigger). I'm heavier than you, so your 32 on the 105 probably sounds right. That said, I've decided after using it in both modes that it's a much better board in the more wavey configuration, i.e. thrusters and in board straps, and not used in wind strength where coaxing onto the plain is needed. It might be deficient technique on my part but I found it hard get planning in marginal conditions and prone to spin out in the freeride mode. I now have it permanently in thruster mode and reverted to a 105 slalom for straight blasting.
And yes, freeride shape, fairly upright
I have the 105 and started using it with Tribal weed speeds for single fin blasting (outboard strap positions)and found they work really well with the board. Had used the severne fins that come with the foxes which worked well but had the tendency to let go sometimes when sailing off the wind. Using the weed speeds seems to trim the nose a bit higher also and the board feels a bit livelier. Weigh about 75kg also and use 29cm fin with the size sails you are using.
After trying several different single fins, i used to like Tribal Kruze 28cm the most with my old dyno 95 v1 (5.5 and 6.5 sails, 62kg), it sits more forwards in the fin box, great fin highly recommend.
Atomic (mr.love) has a good fin too.
Cheers guys really helpful advice.
I've got a 95 too so when it's windy and we've got waves I'll always be on the 95 and use it with the thruster set-up. Was thinking I might be able to get away with using the 105 for lighter wind/flatter days when I don't really need the looseness that the thruster set-up offers up but instead need a bit more drive to get up on the plane with bigger sails. Maybe I'd be better off replacing it with something less FSW oriented. If money wasn't an issue a Severne Fox 105 or 120 would probably fit into my quiver nicely
but I'll give the 32cm fin a go first.
Cheers !
