Beside trailer topic, that is very useful for everyday windsurfing, I have been thinking about something very useful but occasionally. One day as could design light but strong shipping box /container. Standard size that fit most gear needed.
For example 270 x 80 x 60 cm box.
Simple aluminium frame and lite skin made of aluminium sheet.
Now once in a year we want to organize trip to : Lake George, Burrum or Sandy Point for a sport event.
We could arrange truck to take all boxes on the way from Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sydney, Melbourne and deliver on site by LAKE GEORGE SA.
Then sailors could fly and rent a car or organize transport for themselves.
During the event all equipment could be safely storage in the boxes.
Worse case scenario you could even sleep in the box , better then in tent, only to turning on it side and opening cover/roof.Combining shipping for 30 our boxes on whole way Brisbane to LG shouldn't cost more then $100 pp if we have a good deal .
Well made box could last many years and even for everyday windsurfing - serve well with any box trailer or ute .
This way could save us building purpose made trailer and save on registration fee too.For discussion still remain generic standardized size that fit most of users, construction method , locks etc.
But the main reason for unification will be easy to transport, stack able design.
Having such agreed design we also could find a tradie that could build at lower cost 20 or 30 boxes.
I mean build the boxes here in Australia not Chinese knock off ! Maybe a bit more expensive but last longer and serve the purpose well .
We closed auto manufacturing plants in this country but we still should be able to deliver good windsurfing boxes.
10ft shipping container, would be the go, fit heaps of gear in, then you get to use 'general' road/rail freight also which is much cheaper than box freight rates.
It would be good to have this concept expanded to give affordable storage in metropolitan areas. Recently I had to sell my van. It was effectively my storage shed on wheels. I have very little storage where I live.
So so now I'm looking at paying 10k of more to buy a clapped out van that is my storage shed on wheels. I'll have to pay high taxes to the government, pay insurance and most probably have high maintenance costs on this old van. I could buy a newer van but then would have the depreciation costs. My wife's car is quite small but can carry a lot of stuff on the roof racks. So the idea of reasonably priced modular and accessible storage is attractive.

We possibly want individual box , with own gear inside. Not stacking all other somebody gear.
Then on site- our box serve as good , safe storage too.
Shipping containers across the country is not cheap at all. It cost me 2x as much to bring one every month or so from Brisbane to Gold Coast ( 60 km) as from China to Brisbane port by sea.
I could possibly do with 2 boards and few sails on LG expedition, but some may need 2 boxes $100 each- still cheaper then any other mean of transportation.
If we look around / join forces it should be possible to hire a truck or truck and driver for the trip Brisbane- Sydney-Melbourne- LG, SA
or Sandy Point another day. The other way to Burrum. We could go as far as Perth one day ! Cairns Green Island once we have a system in place.
