Hi

I bought this year a 4.60 Blue line mast and it is starting to bend in the union joint of the mast.

It is getting so bent that is being difficult to connect the two parts of the mast together. I just used it 6 times.
I use the mast to rig my Overdrive 4 sails.

This is starting to be a big issue and I think soon it will break or be so much bent that I cannot connect the parts.
This is not natural, and i sent a e-mail do Severne and my starboard / severne supplier in Portugal.

My supplier told me by phone that it is dificult to deal with this type of warranty and maybe Severne will say no to the claim, i hope its not true...

Anyone else with the same problem?

I attach photos of the mast
You can see on the first image the bent down and on the second picture the bent to the right.

Thanks

I very much doubt Severne will just turn their back on you and say no. Im pretty sure they will work something out. If your supplier says otherwise I would question it because with a minor issue I had with one of my sails and from all reports from other people on seabreeze Severne customer service and back up has been second to none.

I work for a Severne dealer and I have not seen that problem before. Blue line masts are fairly problem free. Severne are good at replacing faulty product and it looks like your mast is faulty. Can you take it in to your dealer or at least send him some good quality photos, including some close up one of the ferrule area. Include a straight edge alongside so the bend is easy to see.
The usual procedure is the dealer send photos to the manufacturer, and if they deem it is faulty the manufacturer either sends a new mast or authorises the dealer to give one out from his stock.
The warranty claim process is a hassle for the dealer so he may be trying to fob you off by saying Severne will say no. Insist that he processes your claim.
It is a bit easier for us because the Severne loft is just up the road, but I am sure their policy is the same everywhere.

Wow that is really weird, can't figure out how that could happen.
How does the mast look at the bend, is there any sign of fractures or splits?

I guess if the inside joiner doesn't go deep enough into the mast, that could cause the outside mast to start splitting. But I wouldn't think the mast would stay in one piece once that process started.

^^ pretty sure ferrule section is glued in, which would be (1) apply glue then (2) rotate to ensure even distribution.
No rotation = glue on one side and not the other, so when it goes wonky (almost inevitable) it would result in that much deflection quite easily.

Obviously something that is a manufacturing error, not abuse. (Unless rigged up continuously in 50deg C with a black luff tube in the sun all season.....
I am sure Severne will come good with it. I wonder why the O.P would post this in 2 forums when the warranty process is not yet complete?

Anything can happen during the manufacturing process here and there but the most important thing is the manufacturers approach and Severne is definitely number one. No worries, they'll look after you. Sometimes it might take a little bit of time, it depends on the issue, but they are fair and look after customers. I wouldn't probably use the mast just in case, if it breaks, you might ruin your sale.

Hi

Thanks for the answers.
So there is a problem indeed, i was thinking i was kind of getting freaked out with this bent after 6 uses and maybe a ilusion problem from my eyes.......after all i´m not getting younger
There are no fractures or littles cracks.....just the tip bent!!!

This is my first season with Severne Sails and masts so i dont know very well the kit yet.
I come from NP.

Moved to Severne because of better and cheaper sails and masts!!!
Love the Overdrives, very easy to rig and powerfull. I´m using them with Blue Line masts, this 4.60 was the only one with this problem.

Already in touch with Severne so the issue will be fixed soon!!!!

Thanks guys for your help!!!
