I assume it can be done. Can any of you fine people give some advice or recommendations? I want to send a 460 SDM from the Gold Coast to Tassie.

Also, I'll need a mast bag (empty) in order to perform this task. Anybody want to sell me one?

Cheers

I am prepared to improvise, but a proper one would be nice.

Aus post is now containerised so they won't take longer than 1500 or 1800 or something. Either way it rules out all WS stuff
mongrels

id just bubble wrap each then both together

I think TNT are the only carrier that take anything over 2m (approx). You can book direct with them through their website www.tnt.com/express/en_au/site/home.html
they did a good job, can't remember the price. (I sent Aluminium extrusions Syd to MLB)

They have accounts at special rates ........ about 30% of a casual user.

I use 'Smart Send' - it's easy, and relatively cheap. You can easily generate a quote online.

I have some spare NP mast bags and a also padded mast travel bag that takes 2 masts. You are welcome to any of them, but I am in sydney.

Alternatively you can wrap it in some bubble and cardboard to protect from impact, otherwise masts are tough.

If you get stuck for freight shoot me a pm, I may be able to help.

That's awesome! The final bundle is a bit bigger, though -- mast in mast bag and bubble wrap comes to more like 250 x 20 x 15, with the weight rounded up to 4kg.
