Hi all,
Having never been to Sandy Point before I will be heading down that way in the next few weeks.... I know it's popular with the speed guys/gals but is it also suitable for beginner/intermediate sailors just wanting to freeride. I ask because I'd hate to be getting in anyone's way. Is there a specific speed area that's best to keep away from etc? Cheers.
Agreed - SP is excellent - I'd even go on to say that its probably one of the best learner spots in Victoria.
There is definitely a "speed area" -> when it blows south-west, the speedies sail quite close to the shore line; you'll know it when you see them doing it. Just make sure to ask one of the guys on the beach, where to stay clear.
Check it out on Google Earth and you'll see how big the inlet is. All the sandy area to the north of the inlet is under water and reasonably shallow on high tide. The speed sailing is done within a few metres of the southern bank. Try the ocean too for a bit of fun near the lifesaving club, via the path opposite the shops. Again fairly shallow close in. Just stay outside the flags of course. Top place.
Ejmack - see you at Sandy Point, on the water ! I will be there 22-27 DEC - can't wait - Its great !
Sounds and looks great, thanks guys!
Go - Not exactly sure when but will be heading that way very soon.
