Hello!
After a long break, I'm intending to get wet again.
To get started I got an F2 SX 125lt, a board I haven't used before. So, I wonder if anyone could tell me what range of sails can I use. I'm not intending to beat word records (I'm 53yo!), I just want the fun.
Thank you all
Marcus
Optimal sails would probably be 7.0 and 7.8 but a 6.3 and 8.6 would still be fun. No Cam free race sails will work OK until you feel the need for more speed.
Welcome back to the sport![]()
Marcus! I sold you the board a few months ago. From recollection, you must also have the 50cm slalom fin.
At 80kg, I have used a 6.7 Neil Pryde H20 (freerace twin cam), 7.6 RRD FIRE (no cam freeride) and 8.6 North Warp (4 cam slalom).
My favourite for blasting was the 7.6 without cams. The reason being that the sail is nice and light, easy to waterstart and to rig. That size sail complements the board nicely. With the big fin, early planing is easy. As for speed, I've managed some frighteningly fast downwinders in approx 20 knots with the 7.6.
I agree with what Swindy has said. If you can get 2 sails that fit on 1 mast and 1 boom that would be ideal.
Thank you both!!
I just spotted a 7.8 sail that looks promising but has 4 cams. Would that make it too hard for getting started?
I aiming to start in light wind days as the lake will get rather choppy. Previous sails were Severne Overdrive 5.5,6.6 and Code Red 7.7. (3 and 4 cams) I felt very comfortable with them.
Gabriel: I am about 93 kg. I remember your comment about blasting on the 7.6 so that is why I started looking for this size sail, but I wonder if going a bit bigger and with the big fin would allow me to sail in lighter winds (so there is less chop). I remember one of the guys I used to sail with, had an 8.5 Code Red on a Starboard Hypersonic 105 (a board I had and enjoyed a lot) and sailed in marginal winds with it
Swindy: I'm craving for speed already and I haven't started yet!
More comments will be appreciated
If you are used to using Cam sails go for it if you still have good fitness. If not no cams will be lighter and easier till you get muscles back that you may not have used for a long time. It's like riding a bike, you never forget but just get a bit rusty. ![]()
