Ego has come in as the cheapest, just under $70, 2300 long 5kgs.
Any tips on other companies worth a try?
I use EGO.
They are cheap and fast , never a problem.
I cant say that about Hunter Express , " THEY LOST A BOARD OF MINE " and i never got any compensation.
" Oh well sir theres nothing we can do about it " is what i got.
It was a second hand board $ 450.
I got an online quote from Ego for a 7.3 race Sail from Hunter Valley @ $80 odd dollars. When my nephew took it into the Freight Company Depot ( Hunter Valley Express Newcastle) they only charged $39. So Depot to Depot is way cheaper. (Adelaide's Ego Depot is also Hunter Valley Express ).
just had an old 80's Panam board with fin still attached freighted from Perth to Melb for $380.
They picked it up from the seller, packed it and delivered to my door!
Pack n Send
alot cheaper than Ego in this instance & far more convenient too
Up until last year I was simply took a few sails directly to the post office. Sent an 8 mtre race sail from NSW north coast to Wollongong for $17. Now they won't accept anything long (not sure exact measurement), so have to use courier. Ego the front runner, but now $60 and a 160 kay round trip to depot for me... Basically not worth the effort now.
Here is my recent experience with e-go... ie in the last 3 weeks. I shipped two sails in two separate identically packed boxes sails from Perth to the East Coast. One arrived within a few days without problem. The other the tracking stopped at the Sydney depot. That was about 10 days ago. Both myself and the recipient have since been trying to track down the wereabouts of the package but the Sydney depot is saying they can't find it even though their tracking system said it was recieved at their facility.
It took a lot of repeated emailing just to get someone to respond. Eventually the operations manager from their Sydney depot responded but with the same line "we don't know were it is and we are trying to find it."
The shippment is insured and at this point I am giving them another 24 hours before I'll request full replacement value plus refund of shipping cost.
I have since learned from Google reviews that other people have had similar problems. Next I'd probably be wary of using them.
Do a google search on all couriers and you'll find both stories, great feedback as well as horror stories...
Can't help
but the prices are about double of US shipments. From the U.K. To US a sail is about your quotes. considering size
344 Findon Road, Kidman Park 5025.
I notice they also have an agent in Kadina.
Have used them before through the local Kadina Freight outlet, just keen to see what the saving may be if I can get it collected from Adelaide depot.
Thanks.
msg'ed them via there facebook page and got reply saying they don't have Adelaide depot ???
+1 EGO
Also try Greyhound, they've been cheaper and really good with items like sails booms, masts etc
but now have a length limit was 2.1m I think?????
I think you get what you pay for, maybe chat to your local shop to see who they recommend. I've had a board and a sail (completely separate transactions from the same shop) shipped over to the east coast from the west coast. The shop used Toll for the sail ($50) and Startrack for the board ($150) and there were no hassles and they were both delivered to my door. The point I'm trying to make is to use a reputable transport company and expect to pay appropriately if you want to minimise the risk of something going wrong and then being messed around.
I use E-Go quite a bit and have generally had pretty good experiences. That could change tomorrow as freight companies are always only one delivery away from a disaster...hahaha Good luck

I note that it was Toll that delivered my board from Pack n Send.
I would have no idea if that's their normal freight carrier or they use various companies to suit.
