I'm finding the clew of my new slalom sails and the back of the boom are dragging in and out the water while sailing along. I tried heightening my boom but that doesn't work. I've changed harness line lengths to 24's, used to use 22's but my supplier doesn't manufacture 22's. Didn't have the issue with the 22's. I'm 5'6 ft and 65 kg. Any idea's how to rectify this issue?
Not enough power in the sail.Release a bit at the downhull and trim outhull accordingly to the new setting.
Ive had the same problem with one of my 8.6s, my older one had no probs though. More of an issue in the larger chop/open water. My solution was to add an extra 2-4 cm on the mast extension but not down hauling all the way to that extra length, so your sail is sitting 2-4cm higher up than before. When you consider the boards with the dipped/hollowed out area around the mast track the sail could be that bit closer to the water to be annoying. Works for me.
Hi Kazza
Try this in following order.
1) Put the boom a bit higher
2) Use the top clew eyelet in the sail (if it has 2 postitions)
3) Try to use a slightly bigger fin / or a fin with more lift.
4) Move the track slightly back
5) Use slightly less outhaul
6) Put the extension setting 2-4cm higher, but use the same downhaul setting for the sail.
Hope that helps :)
Buy a foil, should lift you high enough to stop your sail from dragging in the water.![]()

( that's a four mojee thingy )
I had that problem at one time and adjusting the mastfoot base helped although if you already have it a fair way back and you need control in chop moving it back isn't great.
Have the new overdrives got a different cut?
No the Overdrives are still basically the same, I reckon less downhaul than recommended might do the trick, then I'll try all of the above suggestions. When I downhaul to the recommended setting, it's pretty floppy, probably perfect when your really powered up but I probably don't need to downhaul it to that setting all the time.
I must say that the other day when it was happening I was a little underpowered on and off. Will keep you posted on the experiments..![]()

The new fad people also used in the past you mean? Its a shame when old folks like you claim to be hip by latching onto "new"stuff
