Thinking of getting a SUP for a bit of paddling around in small waves, also for chucking a rig on and playing around in the waves. It would need to be a bit of an all rounder I think. Not sure what size to get for this purpose. Would like it for both my wife and myself to use (60kgs and 88kgs). I believe fanatic, naish and JP do sups with mast base connection. Any ideas for types or size? Thanks
I got a 10'2" JP Fusion for the daughter to paddle around on and i got a 6.2 sail for me to use on it and i am having a ball on it. I am 76kgs and so far have only used it in light winds on the dam. Nice and stable and gets along ok.
I have a fanatic allwave. Great as a SUP in the waves but won't plane. If something works well in the waves unusual for it to be good with a sail. Try posting in the SUP section as well as there are few ex windsurfers there.
Hi Corkers. I have been using JP SUPs for 2 years now and Starboard before that. 10'2 Fusion is the current one. They are great fun in the waves with a sail.
Especially around 10 ktns when windsurfing is not possible and the wind makes paddling difficult.
It is a bit slow going out but ten knots gives enough power with a 6.1 sail to push through the white water easily (84 KGS). It is fairly tame water at Cotton tree which is where I mostly SUP sail.
Make sure the SUP you choose has the mast attachment as some brands don't have it across the whole range.
The 10'10'' is the best SUP that I've ever windsurfed.. The channels on the bottom really get it up and going.
