Thats the way you do a forward loop, land still planing fast.
Will skinny nose boards come back in fashion???
Those guys are old skool pros josh stone is a unbelievable sailor. Up there with the likes of robby naish.
F.2 axxis & thommens flying around. That would have to be 1996 97. They dont make boardsl like that anymore.
Awesome video, forgot about Josh Stone!
What year was that from?
Bjorn's using a Z1 so it would be 1998
Epic.
BTW, to those who have been to Maui, are these the normal wavesailing conditions over there? Because I've been seeing a lot of videos lately where it's just float and ride - no-one is planing except on the wave. Doesn't look very appealing, TBH.
Maui's summer (our winter) blows pretty much all the time. Nor-east trades with most days on 5.3/5.0 down to 4.0.
Check FOK = Friends of Kanaha. Daily wind reports and conditions. Summer is usually wind swell but the odd swell pops up.
Awesome sailing with many areas to try out. Kanaha, Sprecks and Hookipa on the north shore and Kihei and other spots on the south shore. Go, you wont regret it.

Is August still good? From what I've heard in June wind is guaranteed, then it gets weaker and weaker. Maybe next year...

It is normally (very) windy every day in August. There is usually no ground swell as such, just wind swell that offers nice jumping conditions but not a lot in the way of wave riding, but you can be lucky.
It's tons of fun - GO!

The Terminator fanging on a thommen spudnik ltd.& pryde Z.1 .he was the fastest at his peak back then.
Excuse the stupid question, but is the stuff in the video ground swell or wind swell?
Ground swell for sure! It doesn't look like that in August. The groundswell comes in from the Northwest with a long period, whereas the summer windswell just rolls in closely spaced with the wind from the ENE.

Yeah, that's what I thought. So when is the best time for good wind AND ground swell in Maui? Spring and Autumn?
I hate to say it and start something but windsurfing is much better to look at than kiting!
I agree. Sailing down a face of a wave throw in a few bottom turns then maybe a loop. You cannot match that on a kite. Windsurfing is so much cooler.
