I've got a broken batten in my sail. I have been sent a replacement but I need tips on the best way to install it.
I've pulled out the old batten but I can't see an easy way to get the cap off the old batten where it comes up against the mast sleeve. Is it glued on or can I get it off just by heating it or is it salt that's got it stuck there? The new batten does not include that little piece of plastic.
I also have to trim the other end of the Batten by about 3 cm. Is a hacksaw the right tool or is there something better?

dunking in hot water (about 80deg) for few mins should soften the glue enough to pull the plastic cap off

Yes, fine hacksaw just cut halfway then turn it over and cut from the other side to avoid splintering

That got it off OK. No reason to glue it on the new batten, is there?
