Hola!
I find it very useful to check the actual wind readings from the local stations. In some spots where there is a bit of a walk, with friends we don't even go down to check the wind on the beach, but decide by the nearest station + experience, works out most of the time.
As the local sites weren't overly user friendly I made a local site first, but then started gathering real time observation data for different countries and put it on the map. Different countries share open weather data in very different way if at all, it's a bit of an effort to make it happen. And not all of them are super reliable and many update only once per hour. So it varies from country to country. Then again many countries update observations every 10 minutes even. So it's as close to real time as one can get.
Anyway it's a work in progress but so far there is:
- about 15 countries with fully automatic data updates
- short history chart
- 2 and 7 day forecast chart
- different measurement system settings, threshold setting for spot marker highlight
- sticky marker setting to keep it visible on all zoom levels
- saving map views for quick recall
- sharing map views
With over 10k lines of code there's surely bugs and inconsistencies but improving.
Give it a go and share your thoughts?
windtracker.online

a website like this is badly needed for most countries but for Australia we already have www.live-wind.com.au?
Interestingly the wind reported by your site and theirs seems to be different?
Ah, that's cool, nice site, thanks for sharing and pointing out the difference @Kit3kat!
Looks like my server was fetching data bit before it actually became available for next scheduled observation, so it was running 10 minutes behind. Now it is as up to date as it can be. Data becomes available around 2 to 3 minutes after being gathered. So for the 10:00 observation, the info will be available on the map around 10:03.
It's fully self updating on windtracker map, so you can run it on your TV, car, etc without reloading, set the highlight threshold and once the marker turns red for your desired spot just fly out the door. Should implement wind chimes sound for that :-D
Pans map to NZ. Oh...
Sadly enough haven't really found an API endpoint for NZ observations data yet.
looks great , clearly accurate as its says there is SFA wind here on the Nonblow Coast , which is the constant case !
Great zoom sat maps work great ...need wind data for this popular place , looks like an Alien Windsurf ship landed here !

This certainly is a landing site Jonesy! :-) So we could find more of these site by local trackers I have added few more countries like, Brazil, Austria, Slovenia, Coratia :)Still missing some big ones from Europa like Italy and Greece. Even though Open Data directive in EU mandates weather observations to be available freely and machine readable to anybody, it's still not easy to find the access if it is there at all. Anyway I'll keep cracking, around 9000 stations world wide for now :)
Thanks @AUS02
Been working on it some more...
Moved layer selection to the main menu.Integrated spots feature from another site of mine. So now there's layer for spots, and sows live stations near by if zooming in close enough.
Spot marker colour is calculated considering the coming forecast (pretty basic for now).
Each spot has forecast and can have description with video or image, some do already. Saving the view with open forecast remembers it.
There's backend to tie spots to events, businesses, beach cams, etc. An option to promote clinics?
Still plenty in TODO list too, like changing forecast units by settings, UX improvements, and more...
And again, feedback is welcome. Good to see there's some traffic happening already.

One more little addition. Added the sea level prediction from Open-Meteo API to the spot forecast. Should give the ballpark for the tides.

And couple of more features/changes :-)
Can add personal forecast locations now and share em if opening the forecast and using the share button.
Forecasts and markers are updated hourly.
Settings moved into dedicated section.
Satellite view had to go as there is no free map tiles available. Or well, there is but not enough views allowed in the free version.
