This freestyle thing is getting out of control!

Check out the move at 0.31 and 1.24.

Best move I have seen in ages. I think it starts off as a switch kono?

Apparently it is called an "Air Kabikuchi".

They are doing on flat water now.

Awesome.

This stuff is not just happening on videos from the far side of the world - you can regularly see half this stuff happening down at Woodies on a windy afternoon... Not to this standard, but not a million miles away. There are some seriously talented sailors down there, and although I've yet to see an Air Kabikuchi, I know someone who has designs on one.

Great skills..., but am I the only person that finds freestyle seriously boring???

Also, Vimeo needs an effective mute button.

Nope. Even if you find it boring to watch there is nothing like nailing a rad freestyle move! People get excited about nailing a planing gybe, can you imagine the feeling of nailing your first spock? What else are you going to do when there are no waves, sail back and forth? Even fast....snooze.

The thing about freestyle is the learning curve is massive and the dedication required to beat yourself up time and time again in order to learn a move is huge. Factor in the number of sailing day we get on the east coast and most people put it on the to hard basket. Seriously though there is nothing better that you can do for your windsurfing skills than learn freestyle, the sail and board handling skills you accrue because of it are immeasurable.

Windy days per year / weekends per year / 2 = Time On Water (TOW).

Psst... Top level windsurf freestyle > top level kitesurf freestyle
