Hey Crew! Get a load of this.
I sail Golden beach Sunshine coast. Picked up a used RB 9.5 recently. First day out , last Sunday arvo. Only light wind with a BIG BLACK storm brewing in the distance.
So i sailed right up until the lightning was crackin too close for comfort. Like way too close.
Chucked my 380 Phantom n sail up under a tree. Then it hit. Pelting hail, about the size of golfballs. Ahhh WHOOPS !! Not much i could do but stand under shelter n watch my new toy get shredded.
Not a panel intact.![]()
Hail n sails just dont mix. ![]()
So ive got a supply of battens n cams if anyone needs em.
Anyone got a GOOD cheap 9.5 severne RB laying around?
Darkman.

Having seen pics of carbon fibre fishing rods hit by lightning, I'm always wary of approaching lightning. Carbon Fibre conducts really well!
^ We rarely get hail here at Caloundra. Let alone big damaging stuff. Oh well back to using the 9.5 lion on the RB. But it just doesnt have the lightwind grunt of an RB sail.![]()
