hi guys, I've got long service leave from Christmas to Easter next year and will be leaving WA to see the other side. I'll be travelling with 3 kids and wife, and windsurfing isn't the aim. It'd only happen if it fitted in with a our other touristing. We'll be crossing the Nullarbor and slowly working our way around to northern NSW before heading back through the middle. I could sneak 1 board and 2 sails onto the roof.
1. Do you think it's worth it? Or should I stick to surfing/ SUPing
2. What kit would you take?
Ps I'm mostly into waves.

If you're from WA with consistent conditions I'd just bring surfboard

I did take, 0ne board 130 Tabou as not sure on conditions on East Coast. Two sails, 6.4 and 7.2 no cam Loft.
Had some good places to use, some not so good. Was coming back from leg break, so skills were crap
Went from Oct to February.

I'd take your largest wave board or a FSW, 5.7/5.2, you'll score cross on NE or S or SW, great spots when the wind is on from the top to the bottom of nsw ??, plus flat water kit is boring, hit the waves from the goldie (qld) down to the south coast ??

Hmmm, not if you score 30+kts at Lake George and dead flat water. You can scare yourself silly by how fast you're going.

So it's well worth calling into Beachport on the way through. There's some interesting stuff around the area.

Not far from the wine area of Coonawarra if there's no wind.

so can you manage a sail that has a 30+kt top end.

Thanks guys. I was thinking of a big wave board and a 5.3 and 4.7. That's the biggest kit I keep in wa other than slalom kit which is a bit too specialised. Are many of the good sailing spots also close to places we're likely to be visiting anyway? I don't want to make the family miserable by actively seeking out windsurf spots. They get dragged to gnaraloo as it is, so windsurfing will be an opportunistic as this is a once in a lifetime trip.
We'll be touring with a caravan.

Take your big wave board and 5.3 4.7. Perfect. You'll get some good conditions. There's good spots all the way along the coast. Some places get better wind than others but you will get some pretty good days. It's not consistent though so it might be a week between sails. When it's on you'll get a few days in a row.

Take kit as u suggested, make sure u stop at Esperance and cactus and in the first part of your trip it should have justified your decision

In WA I sail a 82l for most places but when i did same trip along bottom, I wish I had a bigger wave board around 90l for a bit more float. 4.7-5.3m sails were fine. Scored some great DTL conditions in SA. Yeah take a surfboard & thicker wetsuit too
