-CHECKed all these over the past 4-5 months of one of the best winter seasons I think I've ever had, taking a minute or two longer to rig every session is the best bet IMO.
just checked my uni joint properly after noticing the tendon ropes (not sure of technical name) had frayed and severed.
pulled the tendon out and it was split 80% through.
just saved myself a big swim.
Looking at my base a few weeks ago and something didn't look right.
Then I realized a nut securing one of the tendon bolts was missing. I removed the bolt and found
only half was still remaining. Next I removed the other tendon bolt and it was bent.
Now I have 2 new tendon bolts without having to go for a swim. 
I can see my downhaul rope is frayed..A bit slack as usually where I sail no big deal if it breaks and I have to get in but I better get off my butt and replace it!

Yep. It's always the case of "It will last 1 more sail. I'll change it next time". But I don't like swimming ;)

Yep I'm not very good at swimming either. I remember last year getting spat off out in 25kts odd off Coal Point and the board flew away and i had to swim flatout to grab it about 50' away. Cripes I almost had a heart attack .. No way was I going to let it get away though as a long way from shore. Heaven help me this year as I was fitter back then! Just have to make sure I don't fall off..
Something you can do straight away is to turn the rope around, the other end hardly does any work and would be in better condition

Good idea! I had another look and although it is a bit furry in one or two spots it still looks pretty solid..
