I wonder if this will have an effect on the price and supply of carbon into the Windsurfing industry....http://yahoo.carsales.com.au/news/2009/small-passenger/bmw/deal-done-for-bmws-megacity-17272
Why don't we just extract all that extra carbon that we need from the atmosphere?
Fixes that other hoax going around... ![]()

I thought the A380 demand was only a problem because it was such a huge amount and suppliers weren't up to the task yet.
I suspect that wherever there's a reasonable demand, someone's going to supply it. If there's a constant demand for producing cars, it may even get cheaper as this means more producers can produce more carbon fiber in order to meet this steady demand.
Is there anything complex about creating it, or is it just that it is expensive to tool up for?
actually most aircraft manufacturers are going back to ali for many components.
quicker to make
less quality control issues
easier to simulate in finite element modeling
it seems the gfc is mainly to blame.
I was told a few years back that there is a finite amount of carbon on the planet( similar to gold ect). So it may not be as easy as just producing more. Apparently the Nazis stockpiled a heap of it during the war. Youde imagine if there was the ability to mass produce the stuff in todays
market, with the demand, the prices would go down.
maybe in years to come we could be heating off the resin from old crashed aeroplanes to make our bits![]()
so .. carbon weve is made from oil .... i cant see how u can go from a liquid into carbon cloth ?? anny one can explain the process of makeing carbon cloth
Carbon is an element, not synthetic.
Wikipedia has an article on how carbon fibre is produced:
