Patrik is doing that for several years and I think, that this is a very good idea.
Regarding Foils I'm not sure. In comparison to Slalomsurfing - Foilsurfing is much younger and has very much faster developements. I think for Foils I would look for the 1 year cycle foil.
Better idea is just to release something when you have a better version. Rather than having to stick to any specific time frame.
