For me it is watching and being involved in the achievements of my young Rooster (son) Jord070 latching onto the sport, growing in his passion for the physical demands necessary and the sheer enjoyment he derives from just being on the water.
Not so stoked he is outdoing me on the heli-tack front and all things freestyle… and waves …
Many highlights in 2007, because last year was my 'renaissance year' as a windsurfer....
1. First time I cracked 30k on my speed kit.
2. First ever trip to Gnaraloo, after some 24 years in the sport!
3. Third trip to the Abrolhos, but the best one yet ![]()
4. First outing at Hardies Run, fast, fast, fast!
5. Started posting on the Seabreeze forums, and found a community of like-minded souls.
6. Participating in the GPS Team Challenge, and enjoying the awakening of my competitive spirit.
Yep, 2007 was a goodun. ![]()
The bad
hull delaminated on my 4 year old Starboard Trance while sailing at Lano on the 28th Dec. But it was the best day I have had at Sth Passage so it was worth it.
The good -
- Bought a brand new board (Starboard Kombat 79) on the last day of the year -and then used it that same day - excellent sail and like all new gear it made me try that little bit harder (and feel like I'm sailing better).
Hi Windy,
I believe you. I was there that day. In fact there were 3 chicks swiming sans tops, it was rather memorable. However my highlight for 2007 would probably that Abroholos trip. Mast high Half moon on Saturday and then the Leo's freight train for Sunday brekkie.
Or on the other hand, perhaps New Year's eve late sesh at Margaret River...
Cheers, Jens
It wasn't the best sail of the year but a day i will remember for a long time, it was the day of the Newcastle storm, yes the wind that pushed that huge ugly ship onto our beach, took a long lunch break to sail in the lake, it was a solid 40 knots gusts of about 50. the swell was sholder high, full servival sailing, never been so over powered on a 4.0m in my whole life, involintary 10 foot jumps out of control. just remember one gust heading back to the beach, board lifting off the water, fully overpowered, thought my rig was going to break in 2, looked about 30m ahead and there was this massive gust coming straight at me, the wind was southerly but the big gusts where coming from the east south east, it just flatted me like i'd just been run over by a boat.
was a great experience to actually say i was out there doing jumps..
