but no reason to tarnish all kiters as selfish pricks

Only those who lay out their strings along the beach and expect everyone else to hop over them and the ones who take up about 40 meters of space on the water.

Do you also grumble when people use the roads you're driving your car on? That's a pretty poor attitude. Last I checked the ocean was pretty big and there's plenty of space for everyone. Lead by example and hopefully idiots will learn their lessons

Oh my god! I cannot believe that one parking mistake has made so much anger and built up crap come out. Listen people, I'm a waterman - A person who respects that place and those who are in it as it brings peace. In my two years here I have seen only a few. WA is totally spoilt by it's wind and conditions, yet I see no one in winter riding or at sunset when the ambience is magic. I have been to locations all around the world in 9 years. You need to get out more. We have it so good here it sets such a high level of complacency It sickens me. Look! Sorry about the parking ok. I'm a peaceful guy, who lives by the water. I teach at the cross and try to keep the place safe and give advice when needed, but you'd know that if you bothered to talk to me. I feel like people really like to talk with confidence on the net and forums. What about face to face. Are we that bad here that we've lost the art of communication. I'm perplexed. Well done sir. A picture paints a thousand words. Probably more than that on a forum. Please redefine your reason for being out there as this forum wouldn't exist as we would all be communicating on the beach. Peace!!

Quite simply this IS about respect, respect for others.
You could have shifted your vehicle when you saw the car park fill up.
We were windsurfing until 7:45pm - sunset I believe, and you did not come back. If I knew who you were at the time I would have come and asked.
I feel for the people who left frustrated due to lack of available parking it was a great day on the water for those who could make it.
Peace - you will find me at Melville ask around.

Instead of advocating anger, how about solutions to this prob?
Would it be accepted if he took up 2 spaces by unhooking his trailer and parking beside it? (I'm sure there's a safe way to make sure it doesn't get pinched...)

Would this suit both parties?
[the disgruntled poleys & teabaggers]---allowance for 2 spaces, considering the fact that he's an instructor, and 'probably' working, I guess he needs the trailer, also the fact that he's probably carrying gear for others?!?...

[said instructor]---would mean 'finding 2 spaces, and extra time moving trailer around, and securing it...

This doesn't solve the mystery of why 5 spaces were taken in the first place, but I'm guessing Mr. Rasta prob won't do that again...how about some form of resolution so this thread can have ran its course?

I gotta say I'm now kind of shell shocked.

I've been learning to kite for some time now in WA, mainly Mullaloo, Pinnaroo, Pt Walter, met kiters, poleys, fishermen, surfers, people walking on the beach....

I've stopped to chat with a fair few of them, they've all been great ; asking questions, expressing concerns etc. But nowhere have I encountered the level of w@nkerism and abuse I've read in this thread.

As a kid, I tried surfing but the whole machismo bullsh!t ruined it for me. Some kid threatening you cos you're on "his" break or riding "his" wave can put you off at that age.

so I'm very disappointed, cos I thought the fraternity of wind-riding sportsmen were different. But maybe I'm wrong. I hope not, but if this sort of thing keeps up, then the only thing that's gonna kill off windsurfing and kiting is gonna be ourselves, not local councils or members of the public...

Why on earth would you think that the wind riding community were any different?

I have been involved with a number of groups over very many years and the one thing that is very apparent is this,.. People are basically the same the world over. There are good apples, bad apples and rotten apples, all in the same barrel. Some people really don't give a stuff about anyone except themselves but fortunately they are in the minority.
Most people do care about others and mostly try to do the right thing. But sometimes they do things without thinking things through.
They are just the average muck trying to get through life with as minimum agravation as they can.
Mostly when others offend you it's not intentional but only because they didn't look at he situation from an external point of view.

You should all have a listen to yourselves. It's embarrassing to be associated with windsurfing or kiting reading this. It was a minor parking infringement that happened weeks ago and the guy even apologized. The most serious thing that would have come of it is someone having to walk a little further than they would have liked. Threads like this make both sports look like they're full of tossers.

This thread calls for two things.

First a bit of facepalm

and then hopefully

Been lurking in this thread for a while. The dude has apologised and he only did it once so big deal.

Advice to Kiting school instructor though: have you asked the council for a key to access the park when teaching? That is what the only WS schools did years ago... Angus whatsisname had Shelley foreshore and parked at water's edge and Ian Lane had Applecross on the end of the Strand (between Heathcote and the big jetty).

Maybe you could move to the latter location or you and 2nd Wind could both get keys to access the grassed area therefore preventing any problems ever again?
