93L, 2004. Powerbox, 256x 59
Im thinking of altering the tail, about 30cm forward to a single or double winger. Adding 2side boxes for a tri fin configuration. Change the tail shape, swallow? Reasoning is to retain the early planing , and enhance the turning .
this was a $50 purchase , it's sound, double wood sandwich, light weight.
Will it change the shape enough to be worth the effort ? Suggestion?

i have all boxes and materials to alter the tail and rails.

I converted a jp few 111L into a quad, now it's a frikken awesome light wind wave board. Tail shape is ok but ideally I would like thinner rails with more bottom tuck in the tail.

Thanks, did you leave the existing box, probably powerbox ?
the freestyle shape is different to yours.

why not put thruster boxes in first, then try it, if its good leave it otherwise if its still not good, then chop the tail.

Good logic. Be easier to do all at once, with mixing epoxy and laying up, paint etc.
no reason not to follow your suggestion.

Strange mix of ideas though. Pulling the tail in with wingers will narrow it for a better tighter carve and improve top turn - yes.
But a swallow is wider in the last few inches so you can't cut a swallow into an existing rounded pin (or even thumb tail) very well as its already a bit too narrow. In trying to get the width between points, you may shorten it too.

So I'd just take 1/4" off each side from a winger starting at 1ft as you said, and not try a swallow.

But a good point from Madge that a thruster conversion alone may do what you want.

I love this experimenting, and old FSW that I converted to trailer ended up magnificent.

Thanks, I will draw out some ideas on the board.

The 30cm point the tail, width is 39.5. Reducing by using 2 wingers on the rails, decreases the width by around 2cm.
37.5cm . 38.2cm width is an average of 5 boards and very near the 91JP FS, 6 years newer.

plotting this out affords quite a few tail shapes.

Definitely worth trying.
I have a Quattro FSW 95 which was a slow old dog.
I took the tail rocker out of it (7mm originally) with a sheet of corecell glued on , shaped and laminated with 76gr and 48gr glass.
What a transformation! Much more lively board and planes way earlier.
I liked it so much that next I whacked the nose off and rounded out the old style square nose.
Works heaps better and even looks modern.
Go for it!

Oops sorry misread your post. Yes left the power box, but haven't used it since the mod.

I have done 2 boards , that I changed the nose tail etc. Your Quatro sounds great.
on this I only want to change the tail and probably add side fins.

my intent at this point is at the 30cm point start a winger 1cm , then another the same 1cm.

the tail shape I don't know yet
