I want to buy the North Power.XTR which comes in 2 sizes: Small 28cm, Large 42cm
My biggest sail is a 7.8 North X-Type with luff 483cm rigged on a North RED SDM 460cm
That means a difference of 23cm. Would that be sufficent to use the 28cm extension?
Any reason why I should get the 42cm version?
Cheers

If you are going to always have the appropriate mast for your sails then 28 cm should be enough, if your sail rigs to specifications and doesn't need more than 23cm extension. You want to have at least 15cm of mast inside the extension otherwise the downhaul tension can damage the mast or the extension. Using the extension at it's full 28 cm could be risky but 23 cm should be safe (there is at least 10cm extension length beyond the top hole).

I bought a 42 cm extension just in case I got a sail that needed a lot of extension, but I find my sails never need more than 8cm extension, so a 28 would have been fine.
