Hi everyone, new to the forums and only just getting started in the sport. In fact haven't done it since the 80s when I was a teen.
My first love is snow skiing but as its not snowing and I can't go to the nth hemispere this year ,I decided on a new hobby instead of pining over what I can't have .
I also like kayaking and fishing but as its blowing around 25 knots as I type ..errrr what to do ......well nuff said .I guess I'm looking for that buzz I get out of skiing,I live 100m from st georges basin so I have plenty of opportunity close by.
Look forward to chatting to y'all and hope to be a regular contributor in here.

cheers
Michael

hi michael. welcome to windsurfing.
Equipment has come a long way since the 80's, You should find progression much faster and more enjoyable if you get onto the right gear.

Thanks for the welcome guys!!
I been trawling the classifieds and steering clear of anything that has the words old skool in it lol. From what I gather as a beginner I guess I need a big floaty board and not too big a sail ??
Interested in kitesurfing also I could easily be swayed,I was watching some kitesurfers on Jervis Bay on Sunday ,looks like a blast, looks like you need a lot more room to move though and the thought of using the board for sup was appealing.

Hi Mike,

welcome to the most fun you can have with your pants on If you take up kiting, pants are optional...

If you like the idea of supping, why not buy a sup with a mast track and track down a used rig in the 5 to 5.5 meter size range. Best of both worlds. And if the sailing side is proving more addictive, hunt down a 130-140 litre board and then work on honing your sailing skills. Win, win really.

I doubt you would have much difficulty getting back into windsurfing, even after a 30 year break. There is a lot of muscle memory that is unique to windsurfing and once your body knows it, it won't forget. Head down to Sanctuary Point when its blowing a seabreeze, ie today, and check out what is going on there. A fellow called Guy Cribb is running a course there at the moment. If he has time about the best thing you could do is have a brief chat to him and tell him what you have told us.
