Just looking for opinions on whether picking up second hand formula gear is a bad option for learning on a budget? I imagine with a smaller rig they would be a pretty stable platform, but I would appreciate your thoughts on whether this is a good path to go down.

The rig would be no good, maybe an older one with a longer water linr length 2.6m or more might be a stable platform, the newer one's are shorter and less stable. Overall not a good idea in my h O. Could be money wasted, there's much better gear to learn on. But listen to what others have to say?

I got my wife up and riunning in 5 minutes on my formula board (with 4.7m wave sail & 30cm cutdown fin),. First time she's ever sailed.

It's quite sailable and extremely stable, but if you're buying kit I reckon there's much more suitable stuff out there.

Have a look in the buy & sell here, keep an eye out for key words "beginner board", "starboard start" etc... Is there a local store in your area? Perhaps they could get you set up with the right gear.

I think you have a fetish for cashed up bogans, which is fine, I won't judge you but there are probably better forums for you to vent your desires!
