my 5 cents... get a Severne Enigma wave. It's pricey but well worth the money. FYI, I bought mine at full retail.Don't know who sells them in WA but in Sydney you can get them at Windsurf and Snow.

My suggestion is to either suck it up and go full carbon or stick with full aluminium - hybrids (ali boom with a carbon tail pice) are seriously underwhelming.
I have a full carbon & if I need to replace it then I'll buy a full carbon....can't go back.
Mark from SurfSail (Leederville) has good boom options, Windforce (Nedlands) stock Severne & Windsurfing Perth have Neil Pryde. 2nd Wind (Melville) will also have some options but don't know their brands.
How good is Perth - 4 shops in a 20km area...?

I got a 211 (Goya) boom and it's super nice, Best boom I've had, It feels a lot like the enigma but doesn't bust the wallet.....And I've had a few including the NP X9. Mine is a 140-190 but I think there is a bigger one? I did a review of it here.

The big selling points of the enigma are 25 mm arm diameter and super light weight.

Small details, the Severne booms have the actual length printed on the tail piece. So rather than just saying 18 cm it says 158cm. I know adding x to y isn't that hard but then again when you pay an arm and a leg for a boom I don't want to start doing calculus when all I want is get on the water.

RE price, Can't remember the exact price but I think the Enigma is advertised for around $900.

I traded my 2011 SV Redline (211 Goya, Simmer, Generic Aeron 'Carbon') for a case of beer after I found an Enigma..

I paid 1100 for that Redline, most expensive case of beer ever! Big difference between the two was the stiffness to diameter ratio.. Pretty sure the Aeron are resin infused carbon/glass and the Enigma is full preprg..

For those who don't know the difference, you can't make masts with resin infusion!..

RRP

211 @890?
Enigmo @1050?

Note: I'm totally biased..

Might not be many 150's in Perth at the moment, but nowhere near as bad as the great Enigma shortage of 2011!

I can totally vouch for the 'Streamlined' , haven't has a chance do a review, but seeing you asked....

So light I seriously thought it was toy!...until I smacked a reef at full tilt, bomb proof, and stiff as , amazing piece of kit, hard core engineered...not everyone will love the 'different' way the boom clamps on, it is a bit fiddlier, could be crappy in cold weather and cold hands...(not something I have to deal with!)

Its very slim, fat at the head end, has no clew stuff so to speak, maybe not suited to big bellied race sails? From what I can see NA in Big sizes yet... I christened mine at Green island so got a big work out...so early days still...Also lashed out on the Streamlined Carbon Extension and deck plate etc...again has a few 'different' things to normal, bit more metal than most, so needs a bit of regular TLC, it's super over engineered, super light.

I still look at the boom and pick it up in utter disbelief! hits the scales at about 2kg!.. 2100gm ish or so....I'd love it more if it was V grip, not sure if there are any Vgrip carbon booms? Vgrip IMO is way better for ergonomics, blisters etc...

I raved about a brand of V grip booms about this time 12 months ago and ended up with egg on face, as I turned them both into spaghetti! So hopefully this investment upgrade makes that pain go away!

Main downside currently is limited sizes, (about a 7ish sail at 210cm max) if they can get a bigger boom sorted I would imagine they would increase sales to a wider market.

Really worth a look and available at Surf Sail WA,

I have two Chinook carbons, and just re-gripped mine with some grip from surf sail. It feels better than new, and hopefully the grip lasts longer. I think it will because it doesn't have the different colours of foam to get in the way. Time will tell.

The Chinook boom locks seem to wear out eventually, so its good to replace them when they start to pop out.

I really dislike the Enigma booms.

Cos I can't find one secondhand, nobody will part with one.
