Just continuing an old topic on New Caledonia ...
Am interested in holidaying in New Caledonia (with family, including young children) and am wondering about any decent spots other than Noumea (Anse Vata beach). I guess we are looking for something that's quiet. Would be happy with something that's 2-3 hours away from the main airport.
Tips welcome.
Have heard good things bout Poe Beach...dunno how basic the accomodation etc is though... We stayed in ansa vate a couple of months ago and it was great..we had an 11 yr old and 2 1 yr olds...wasnt that noisy or full on..is still 20 minutes away from noumea town( which aint that nice !!).
noumea town is one of those places they pull down big steel shutters over all the shop fronts at night..is covered in graffiti...we got off the bus at what we thought was the middle of the town( might have been a bad place to get off) and it just didnt feel that safe to be there....especially with a couple of small kids
There is a few nice shops to be found but are few are far between....you can pretty much get everything you need and want if you are around anse vata anyway.....dont let the townside of things put you off, we hade a great time !!!!
Also absolutely everyone speaks french and very little english so arm your self with a few common phrases......oh..and a visa card with a big limit !!!
I'm working on the part "visa card with big limit", that's the hold up at this minute.
I've looked into Noumea on the web and surely no sign of steel shutters and graffiti. Thanks for the info.
How would you rate it from a sailing perspective? Is Ansa Veta fine for wife and kids with enough to do on their own while you're out on the water?
