Hi, I reasently bought a np TPX 520 second hand as good as new (only tested twice by first owner and left in storage for 2 years and 2 months). I used it 5 times on a neilpryde flight evo 1 8.0 (the correct matched sail). After rigging the flight evo 1 8.0 with the TPX 520 for the 6th time, I noticed that the mast bent different and that there was a point sticking out of the sail. I quickly derigged and found out that the bottom part of the male joint had a big crack half way around the mast. The sail has always been rigged properly (mastjoint always intact and top of the sail always all the way to the top). The mast has never been dropped or been in a heavy crash. I am trying to claim the mast because I clearly think this is a production defect. However since it has gone more than 2 years of the warranty that neilpryde offer it might not be possible to claim it. What do you think? The mast has only been used 7 times and has already snaped. It has to be a factory defect right?
I would post pictures of the breakage but since I am a new user I can't post pictures yet.
Cheers
Worth a try, but I wouldn't hold your breath. Out of warranty, 2nd hand, with only a 3rd partys word that it's been stored up somewhere safe for 2yrs after minimal use. The only thing that might see it work is that it presumably looks like a new mast?
Worth a try.
I had a chinook mast with a visible ripple in the top half right by the joint, a manufacturing defect, and it snapped there out of warranty. In that case it was replaced by chinook. If there is something visibly off they may honor it, but I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't if it's over two years.
Thanks Subsonic and Aeroegnr! The mast does look like its new and there is a visible ripple in the mast joint, I don't know if it is the same kind of ripple as yours. It looks a bit like a crack in the carbon and it goes vertically straight up.
Actually I was wrong. I was able to find the old pictures, it was the bottom not the top. There was a clear ridge in the mast which you can see. But again, it's up to NP.

In the UK, I think the warranty is only for the person who bought the mast originally. Its out of warranty anyway. Have you got the original receipt? No harm in trying and asking who? Your NP importer, the shop it was originally purchased from?
Looking at those pics it appears that the mast has been crushed to form that type of ridge line and why is there a chunk taken out the bottom?

It was a long time ago but I think it had a defect in it with a ridge well before that accident. I could be mis-remembering. It was my first rig.
Hi There
Ideally you need the online registration confirmation from the person that purchased the mast new, this gives the mast a 3 year warranty
Here is an example of the return email from NP
Best of luck
