I'm wondering if anything like this exists or could be attempted. So when you buy gear in place A and need transport to place B you can advertise the job and how much you would be willing to pay.
Alternatively if you are traveling you could advertise your trip and pick up jobs for cash or even seats for traveller.
I know there are professional services that do this but I suspect you have more risk of crushed boards etc that way. And as far as insurance goes I recon its just a risk, just like with the pros. Trying to claim on damage is difficult if not useless.![]()
Ive done quite a few really big drives to pick up special gear and though that if I could take someone elses stuff at the same time , that would be petrol money for example.
It would need to be a dedicated forum or would it even be a section on buy and sell. It can not go in a specific state as it needs to cover interstate travel.
Meeting other windsurfers is often fun too. And if you had a couple of jobs both ways it could start to pay for a holiday.![]()
It would increase your boards value if transport options opened up. Means more buyers!
It could be done as the buyer owns the board in transit, and the sale difference is the payment. That takes the risk out for the buyer and puts it on the transporter. I'd expect a much bigger payment for that deal as it really is a form of insurance.
What do you think![]()
If someone is already doing this a a job, let me know their contact.![]()
I did this 2 months ago, took a board to Sydney from Perth. One very happy new mate. No one wanted me to bring anything back and I couldn't find anything I wanted/needed either (in Vic & SA)
I think the reality is that if I drove over to pick up 3 boards on my Pajero from melb and come back to wa the fuel bill would be about $500 empty going across and a bit more coming back. And almost due for a service too. At $300 each board I'd still be out of pocket. If I had a van the the fuel each way would be similar as the boards are inside.
There is something there but it's about traffic. Not the demand so the couriers charge what they do. What other board sized parcels go across the country. Bikes, surfboards, sails, boxes of parts. Get a full load and someone's got a business driving.
One perk - I loved Streaky Bay oysters.
Ooh that's another parcel. I'll need a bigger Engel!
I agree its a top idea. I reckon we should have a forum for it or attached to the B&S somehow?
I'm getting quotes of $300 for a board its just ridiculous, when those with accounts pay 1/3 of that.
Then it gets thrown around by Swift n Shift ![]()

Other benefit too can be the travel times are different between sports, so no windsurfers are coming here at the moment but lot of surfers and Wicked Camper crew heading north. If you could make money for just having aboard on the roof for few days ![]()
Also, end of season WA there's heaps of gear for sale cheaper than over east, and people heading west to east. Would help the eastern staters get a deal, and help WA folks sell their stuff in a flooded market .
Now I need to get a board form Melbourne to Gero in the next two months.... anyone?
I often thought the same about boards. The number of times I have flown Sydney Perth with only carryon or just one checked bag. Could have easily thrown in a board for $30 airport to airport.
