Im looking at buying a collection of gear for a pritty descent price, but ive been warned thx to Gestalt that not all masts work with all sails. Due to something i know nothing about 'constant curve' where different brands have different 'constant curve' or somethign like that?
So here i am asking another question on seabreeze.
NP X3 Mast + 2007 7.0 Ezzy Sail = ???
NP X3 Mast + 2007 6.2 Gaastra Poison = ???
Will those combinations work? Or will the NP mast simply just not work with those sails?
(p.s i have a giant mast extention for the ezzy sail, as its made for a 460)
NP + Gaastra = epic fail. They use opposite mast curves.
NP + Ezzy = reasonable. Ezzy use "seam shaping" to achieve their sail belly, which means that they are more tolerant of different mast bend curves. Ezzy state that their sails will work with any mast from 2000 onwards (or words to that effect) so this combo should work reasonably well.
hth
I have 2 NP masts ,not sure of the year but I think they are about 2001 vintage which I use with Ezzy 6m and 6.5 Infinitys.I do not have a problem at all.
Agree with Nebbian
But even though NP will work in an Ezzy it would still not be ideal.
The flex tip mast means more leech twist, therefore you won't downhaul as much ....... meaning the luff could not quite have enough skin tension. This would perhaps make it not want to go upwind as well, or feel a bit funny sometimes.
For an intermediate it should be fine, I'm just really nitpicking to let you know what you may be in for Sculls
(Oh yeah btw Nebbs, I still remember "segmented curve seam shaping" being the big big development in NeilPryde's 1989 catalogue)
I ran an Infinity on an NP mast a while back. The mast was the next size down from the specified mast and it had a huge amount of extension. The NP being stiff in the bottom and soft in the top was about the right stiffness where it counted. The soft top didn't bother it at all. Yep, as I remember it it was pretty nice.
