Has anyone sailed with the new '08 N.P.'s that have the ultracams in them?http://rsracing.neilpryde.com/ultra-cam/introduction.html
Yep, I have 2 sails with Ultracams. They do rotate really smoothly, certainly much smoother then my sail with normal cams.
I dont think they offer any advantage over the oldstyle cams, but they are definately smoother. They dont rotate with a bang, they allow the batten to rotate slower and with less fuss.
I like..

Nope, they to rotate quite differently. I find that my battens flip, but do not drag the cam fully around with them. (A bit like the bottom cam in the RS5 which has to be kicked around after the rig flip.)
Then the pressure in the sail makes the cams complete the rotation as you sheet in. Very smooth and controlled.
Of course that is on the V8, it might be a little different on the RS Racing where there are more cams in the sleeve.

I have a RSR 8.4/6.7 & they rotate completely every time.
The feeling is very similar to a raf sail going around.
Infact with the 8.4 in very light wind it still rotates every time.![]()
OK, if we are going to be serious I have a 7.6 RS Racing and it rotates quite easily. If you are fully powered they go around smooth. If you are tacking or just changing sides sometimes they need another pump to complete the rotation.
On the RS Slalom MkII 6.7 they go around like they are not even there, smoothest rotating cammed sail Ive ever used.
Great responses!!! Thanks for the answers. A cambered sail that feels like a R.A.F.? That's terrific.
To be honest JP I wouldnt know. First season using NP stuff so Im not up with anything other than X9 and new sails.
The man to ask is Sam Parker at info@windsurfnsnow.com.au
He's been using NP stuff since JC was a lad.
Hope this helps.
