No wind this weekend, so what's one to do but fiddle around with racks. My van is a Hyundai iMax, I want to be able to pull all the gear out and use it for other purposes when I want. On occasion I even fit the seats back in for a family trip.
4 boards carrying capacity is plenty for me, I can slide a 5th, the speed board, over the top if needed.
I did have horizontal racks at first, but not ideal without a cargo barrier. With this setup, all boards are below shoulder height.
cobbled this together with bits and pieces from the shed. Total cost $0.
the roller bar at the back is Eva tile stuck to 1.5" poly pipe, sleeved over a curtain rod. I have this adjustable so that I can slide a box under the tail of the boards. If I want to chuck a 1m wide foilboard in, or my mountain bike, then I need to drop it flat

So it just sits in the van

A quick job to pull everything out if I want to sleep in the back (e.g. Cervantes trip)

Rear bar flat

Wife and daughters saddle blankets put to a higher use - catching drips off footstraps. Whilst horses are hard on the bank account, they do have benefits..... there are no complaints when I buy windsurfing gear :)

Ready to go!

2 bikes fit in easy enough if I want to hit the mountain bike trails with my son.

Foil board mode. The slappers are actually resting on the blue box, I'd normally remove it

probably not for everyone, but I'm very happy with my setup
And here I am hauling boards and sails in my sedan with a mix of a roof rack and a sailbag shoved all the way from trunk to lain down front seat.
