I have an 11.0 Gaastra from 2003 which is designed for a 520 IMCS 34 Fiberspar mast. Unfortunately I broke that mast a few months ago and since then I have used it on a 520 Pryde X5, with IMCS of 32.
This mast is a bit too soft and the sail doesn't rig that well on it. This afternoon I pulled out the old fiberspar top section (undamaged) and it plugged in fairly well (not loose) to the Pryde bottom section.
I was thinking that this combo (32 IMCS base, 34 IMCS top) could work better than the 32 base/32 top as it would be stiffer. But i dont want to risk breaking the Pryde bottom mast as then i wont have any mast at all.
Does anyone have any idea about a) whether this would make a difference to the sail and b) whether it would damage the Pryde mast bottom to use the Fiberspar mast top? I've heard of mixing and matching 520 bases with 550 tops using the same brand (eg Severne) but not sure about my combination.
