Hi Carbon gurus
I was recently given a NP mast, top part is an X65 460, bottom part X100 490 !!!
Both from broken masts, shop gave it to me, has not been tested yet.
The two bits fit perfectly, snug fit.
Considering using it on a 8.6 for foiling, just wondering if there is any danger of mast exploding in use. Would hate damaging a sail just to see if it works.... ![]()

Yes I know, it should be in the "mast section" of the forum, but I figured I might get more (and probably funny) answers over here ! ![]()
Ive done similar to rig a 9.8 nitro. 100%C 520 base with 60%C 490 top 38 extension no issues. Probably won't win a race. But it works.
Only time ive had a mast explode was in an 8m warp. I chucked an old one piece in rigged it. Carried to the board, clicked it to board. BOOM!!! One 100% 490 destroyed. Sail survived.
Thanks Olskool ! My primary goal with this sail is early take off in marginal winds. So it's going to cop a lot a heavy pumping !
It,s gunna make it more flex top.
Will be an ultra flex top![]()
pryde masts are already flex top and now your adding a softer top (lower imcs) to a stiffer bottom.
Could be also really useful if you want to use it as some form of catapult. ![]()
Did this once with a Powerex SDM 490 bottom and 460 top after getting the idea from Peterman for NP sail. Worked but still too overall stiff so found a 460 NP mast. Sail actually calls for 490 NP but I can barely downhaul the 460 which has worked out fine - I'm smaller than average.
Nothing blew up but the magnetic poles did flip for a while.... ![]()
Oh, and now Ezzy does this with a bunch of their smaller sails which I actually find annoying that the recommended mast is a 430 top and 400 bottom. PITA. But their masts are intended to be interchangeable like this.
