Hi all.
Just wondering what windsurfing in Maui is like in the month of January.
Things like wind strength, consistency etc.

Who has been then and how was it?

unfortunately no victorians are allowed in maui due to the strict anti-ocker laws in place over here.....nice try though!

It will come down to luck that time of year. You can easily get a week or more with no wind or you could get wind most days. You are much more likely to get rain a lot too if staying on the north Shore. Personally I wouldn't go there especially to sail that time of year unless you were going for a month or two. You are pretty guaranteed of nice waves. Winter on maui is a very different place then summer. Less tourists, great waves, lots more variety of places to sail when it blows.

Most all the awesome pics of Jaws that you see are taken in January, which is a great month for big waves, but wind, not so much.

Yeah winter in Maui, bigger swell less wind, quite often "Kona Winds" which is from opposite tack

I once went in November / December for 6 weeks which many considered the worst time to go and we had wind 4 days a week on average.
One thing though it will rain quite a bit at that time of the year. Not a major drama as it's still warm.

Same, was there for 3 weeks one December years ago - still had wind, though not as strong or consistent as the summer months, but more waves & yep a bit of rain. But hell it's still Maui!!!!!
