I spent a week in Maui Hawaii and the weather was beautiful, but the windsurfing sucked! It was windy for only one day when I was their, but the conditions were horrible. 20-30 foot waves that were breaking 100 yards from the shoreline. The water was so bumpy from the high surf that it was so hard to get moving. The wind was very gusty from 15-25 MPH, but kicked in to more in the low 20 MPH range later on. I was on a 115L board with a 5.3 sail, which seemed to be pretty good for the conditions. People were breaking masts, and getting stuck in the high surf, kites were tumbling down waves and getting clobbered. The lifeguards were in seadoos rescuing people. Not the best experience for windsurfing this trip. I rented gear from Hi-Tech, they were really nice, and did warn me not to go past the huge breaking waves 100 yards out, and I listened. The gear I rented was about 3 years old, and slightly warn out.
I did a lot swimming, sightseeing, eating and laying on the beach. I enjoyed all of that a lot.
This time of year Brazil would've been your best bet (but no guarantee - no such thing in windsurfing).
I think you got your timing wrong. Isn't November the wrong time of year for the trade winds, which are most consistent in June, July and August. The swell is better in November, hence why they hold the PWA event at Hookipa during this time of year, but the wind is inconsistent.

Yep, May - August. Tradewinds with small and easy waves.
October - April is the biggest waves but usally not much wind.
They all head to west Oz this time of year.

Yeah, I went windsurfing for just one day, and ended up doing other things in Maui for the duration of my stay, but over all, it was a fun trip.
I was there in mid October. The waves were not huge but the water was rougher than I was comfortable with, and my fitness not as good as I had hoped, so I didn't get to do as much sailing as I had hoped either. Winds were moderate. I am told the water is really flat in winter, but sometimes you just have to go when it fits in with other things. Still a lovely place to have a vacation.

They are in the process of finishing the contest today, the wind came back, sorry about that.

I recon every Australian windsurfer knows that the windy season in Maui is June through to August. I find it very surprising that an American did not know this

Haha, yes everone at the bar was cheering when Trump won!! It was hilarious! Only heard one dude cursing, and everyone told hIm to shut up!! This was my first time to Maui, was told by many that the wind always blows their. Was checking their forecast in October, and it was looking good, and was looking good when I arrived, but died after a storm rolled in that evening. Was no wind after that. Just was unlucky I guess. What else is there to say about that. Plus I was meeting up with family to vacation, so it was not all going to be windsurfing the whole time.

And every Ozzie surfer knows Nov, Dec, Jan has the biggest surf in Hawaii :/
Still, I can't imagine it was a bad "vacation".

I went to Canada in August, the weather was fantastic but the skiing sucked. I thought the skiing would always be good. Good to know that some times are better than others.

22knts with a 115ltre and a 5.3m you should have been lit up with that combo…..unless you weight is over 110kg…..
your not the first person to get skunked with wind.. but like the thred says its a trade wind set up over there you have been living under a rock not to know that or you got some bad information
Hey Magic Ride - good to hear you enjoyed your family vacation and managed to get a bit of a sail in. I know from experience that you can't always choose the ideal time of year when you're combining the two.

Yeah there was enough wind for my rig that day, but the swells were so large and bumpy, it was very difficult to hold onto a plane properly. And then you have to gybe pretty soon after because of all the white water from larger swells about 100 yards out from shore. Was an experience for sure. Now I know the best times to go for the future.

Been to Lanzarote for a week in June 09' and only sailed for one hour only for the whole week. The wind sucked royally bad.
Apparently the day I left the wind returned to the normal 35 knots daily...
I stayed on the south side in Wailea, which was very flat, but I windsurfed on the north side at Kahana Beach Park and rented from Hi-Tech.
