Ok so I'm tired of having mismatched gear, my sails don't rig properly, rigs are heavy. I'm thinking I want to;
A) initially spend my money on some light carbon masts ( I have a couple of good booms already)
B) pick a matching mast / sail brand and stick to it , slowly building a sail quiver around the masts
C) as I am keen to get into some wave sailing I want to be able to rig (if possible) wave sails and free ride sails on the same masts ( will get second hand wave sails initially as no doubt they will get trashed)
D) simplify my kit down to three mast ( wife sails occasionally to)

My question is what brand of masts ( and sails) should I go for?? Is there a mast brand that is compatable with a number of sail brands? Was originally going to go with Loft due to their tough construction and good value sails, but looks like there availability on the east coast is now limited. I realise it's a subjective question. I guess my priorities would be value for money, ability to use one mast on a couple of different sails

Probably looking at a 400 mast to cover something like a 4.7 and 5 wave sail, as well as a 5.3 free ride sail. Then would need mast to suit maybe a 6 and 6.5 free ride.

Just don't know where to start, any suggestions appreciated

Have you considered Ezzy's RDM masts with interchangable tops/bottoms? They are on the softer side of the constant curve I think.

^^ agreed

You can rig fast no-cam freerides and wavesails on them, and lots of different brands will work on an Ezzy RDM. Plus they seem to be toughest (or right up there in top few anyway)

When I had my Ezzy "Hookipa" RDMs, the KAs, Ezzys of course, and Hot Sails Maui worked on them pretty well. Now that Maui Sails is constant curve, they could probably work on the Ezzys too.

Just had a quick look, they look good with the interchangeable tops and bottoms. Is there a dealer in NSW?

Anyone rigging Loft O2's ( 5.3 and 6.6) with Ezzy masts with success? My O2 's are relatively new with a fair bit of life left in them., I know they are compatable with rdms. Would be a bonus

I don't have experience with the loft sails but I know a local sailor over here who has used some loft freeride or race sails on his ezzy and it seemed to work fine.

Loft sails need constant curve masts and RDM so I wreckon they should work well on Ezzy. I think constant curve is a good way to go.

BTW I think the Loft reseller will be sorted in the near future

Have a look at the Neil Pryde Fusion, 4.9 right through to 6.7 rig on a 430. I rig mine on a Pryde 65% RDM matrix and they work beautifully!

I use Ezzy masts and rig my Lofts on them - 5.3 Oxygen, 6.6 O2 and 7.8 Switch blade. They match well

I also use the Ezzy's with KA-Koncept (6.6) and North RAM (5.8) with good results.

I also have a HSM 5.0 GPS - it doesn't like the Ezzy mast, it prefers a softer top.

You can soften or harden the flex by swapping tops and bottoms.
look here for a guide on how it works using pryde masts.

The theory is still valid swapping mast tops and bottoms - don't jump more than one size though eg 400/430 not 400/460 .
Shorter tops = more flex top
Longer tops = harder tops

Another vote for Ezzy RDM masts here. They are all carbon with an outer fiberglass wrap (hence billed as 91% carbon). The reinforced area for the boom is very long, extending above and below the indicated clamp area, and the wall thickness is greater than other RDMs I've seen. They're extremely durable - you'll probably never need to replace them.

Certainly almost sold on the ezzy rdm, should match my current sails and the ezzy sails sound pretty good to turn to in the future. Couple of wave sails and a 6.5 and 7.5 free ride ....... Sweeeet
