Hey guys!
Does anyone still have that Boards/Windsurf magazine artical on masts and the differnt bend curves, if they could post it up that would be sick!
My problem is, that i want to get a new 400 mast for my 2010 Gaastra Manic HD and im not to sure what i should get.
Im definately thinking 100% Skinny, but just not sure on brands and how they would work.
In an ideal world, i would get a Gaastra 100% but they aren't cheap!
I was thinking Amex, Tushingham etc!
Let me know if anyone has experienced or used any of these masts on a 2010 Gaastra Manic!
Cheers guys!
Steve
I use Amex's on my 2009 poisons (I think you tried it in the Summer at Dendy)
It's ok but rig it up first - where are you? 4boards.co.uk give pretty good deals. They're on skype if that helps.
Cheers
I measured a Hypersonic skinny once that had about 10%bend.
<ed> Just remembered Gaastras are 12% these days. Sorry. Don't use a Hypersonic. Px, Severne, as Mr Love suggests. Loft fills the bill too and Naish. I would be wary of Maui Sails. They tend to be hard top which you may not like if you are looking for power.
Anything that has a bend curve of 9-12ish should work. Powerex, Severne for sure would. Amex looks like it would from the Peterman site , probably Maui sails as well.
Dunno about others.
in response to this thread and more of a question..is there one mast you all can say that is universally accepted by most sails![]()
am sick of trying to get specific masts for specific sails
and won't work properly![]()
Mr Peterman has thoughtfully provided the formulae.
peterman.dk/mast-imcs-formulas.htm
You need a couple of trestles or step ladders to hold it up.
Support it 50mm in from each end.
Tie a string line or bungee line directly above it and parallel to the mast.
Locate the quarter points.
Measure the vertical distance to the mast at the 3 quarter points.
Hang 30kg of the midpoint. Exercise weights are convenient.
Now measure the vertical distances to the deflected quarter points.
Calculate the 3 deflections and chuck them into the formulae.
