I have a GA IQ 4.5 which according to the unifiber mast chart needs a mast with a FL flex-low bend. But I only have simmer masts that are constant curve. Because they have slightly more bend in the upper section the sail rigs very flat above the boom with alot of leech fall off.
However if i extend the luff length of the sail by around 10cm with the variable top, it rigs lower on the mast in the straighter section. Which gives it a much nicer profile and less leech twist
Anyone ever tried this? Could be another setting to play with when you dont have the correct mast for your sail.
Yes but even if it is the correct mast - I have a SV Blade 5.7 that's designed on 430+3, and SV say the 400 with extension is an alternative setting, but that is not quite ideal. I much preferred one model year of them on 400 +33 which was counter intuitive as a heavyweight. So mucking around is always worth a go.
Yes I tried all combos possible and ended up with a 400 top and 340 bottom. It came with less downhaul and huge amount of outhaul on a cc mast.
Either way works. I did find that the sail worked better under to regularly powered.
