Has anyone put heel pads under EVA pads and had success?
Any tricks or hazards?
Is self adhesive EVA from Clarks suitable?
Do you have to sand the edges down to make a smooth ramp, or do you have to precompress them somehow?

Yes I have. The Clark Rubber self advesive EA is good as it is a slightly softer grade that our top pads.
Alternative is the thinnest cheap yoga mat from reject shop or similar, the 6mm ish one. Just check it is real EVA as some look like it but actually hold water.

Just cut the under pad with a very shallow angle using a long boxcutter blade. That cutting does not have to be anywhere near perfect as the upper layer smooths out all manner of excrescences. (There's a word I always wanted to work in)

Make sure the upper pad has a good 15mm overlap border at least for good contact

" all manner of excrescences"

Hey dave, Aust Jet Ski Parts on goldie sell hydroturf sheets & also the softer density backing softer foam, I think you can buy with or without adhesive. The hydroturf is pretty much same as pads used on isonics but just slightly harder but more durable, very comfy if you use the dual density foams.

+1
I use their grip now and it's great . Just make sure you use the cut grip not the moulded grip.

I used to recommend hyrdroturf from AJSP as it was about all we could get. Trouble is it is huge and post is a killer - well maybe in WA anyway.
I also find it a bit thin.

Then I saw the stuff at SurfSail Aust.
Thicker - much more like factory stuff - self adhesive, and even better it is 'directional' like the Starboard fishscale pads and that's nice.

Sold on it now.
