NOt sure if it's been mentioned here, but there is a race from magnetic island back to townsville as part of sail townsville, it is setup for kites, but I see there are two windsurfers on the entry list, would be good have a mixed fleet

The race today was great!
After an anxious morning waiting to see if there would be ANY wind it kicked in nicely about 1:45 pm and the fleet of Formula kites, twin tips and three windsurfers headed from Nelly Bay down a long deep reach to the Strand. The last leg along the Strand to the finish was in full view of the public and attracted heaps of attention. Dennis Winstanley was the first windsurfer across the line. Many thanks to Townsville Sailing Club and In the Loop Townsville for their support of the race and of welcoming windsurfers. Hope to do it all again next year with bigger windsurfer numbers!
